Angeldahl understands the Spain players' position and will back them whatever they decide

Uncertainty remains over the decision to be taken by the 23 called-up players who are due to report to the Spain national team training camp on Tuesday at 11.30am for the two Nations League matches against Sweden and Switzerland. Twenty of the 23 players have already signed a statement declaring that they do not want to be part of the national team unless there are profound changes.

If the players maintain their stance of not turning up, the consequences could be severe with a fine of between 3,000 and 30,000 euros and the suspension of their federation licence for between two and 15 years.

Their opponents this Friday, Sweden, whom they defeated in the semi-finals of the World Cup, are no strangers to what is happening to the Spanish national team and one of their players, midfielder Filippa Angeldahl, has shown solidarity with them and said she supports them in their claims.

"They should feel all the support around them, other countries support them in the decision they decide to take," she told Aftonbladet.

"If they feel they need to boycott to make something happen, it is clear that we support them. So I guess there is something that needs to be changed, that not enough has been done in the national team."

She understands that their fight is justified: "I don't think anyone wants to go through something like that. I think it takes a lot out of them mentally.

"It must still take a lot to say no to a national team. The national team is the best thing we have, you want to represent your country."
