The coach spoke ahead of the Super Cup clash with Valencia

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke ahead of his team’s Super Cup clash with Valencia.

“Titles are always important for this club. Last year winning it gave us a lot of confidence and I hope this season the same thing can happen,” said Ancelotti.

“We have to prepare well for tomorrow, better than for the last game (against Villarreal) and try to go home with another trophy.”

The coach said: “The signs in training were good and it surprised me the game against Villarreal, which wasn’t good, because the feelings were better.

“The defensive aspect was not good and we have to work on that and show something different. This team knows how to defend better. The defence is basic for us because up front we have the quality we need, but we have to support it with a base more solid than in the Villarreal game.”

He also admitted he does not have a great relationship with Valencia coach Gennaro Gattuso.

“We have had very nice moments, we won two Champions Leagues, we have great memories,” said Ancelotti of the player he coached at Milan.

“Later the relationship was not so good. We had personal problems but I don’t want to talk about them.

“Gattuso’s teams are intense and have a clear identity on the pitch.”
