Spain's World Cup winners still not ready to return to national team
A statement later on Friday will confirm their reasons for maintaining their boycott
Spain's world champions will not heed the call of the new coach, Montse Tomé, and will maintain their boycott with the Royal Spanish Football Federation, asking for more structural changes after the exits of Luis Rubiales and Jorge Vilda.
The players have already notified the RFEF and are now working on a statement in which they will explain their decision to follow the approach and not adhere to Tomé's call up for two Nations League games this month in which the future of the national team in the next Olympic Games in Paris is compromised.
Tomé, who is making her debut as coach after being appointed following the dismissal of Vilda, will not be able to count on the 23 players who won the World Cup nor the remaining 12 from last September's 15 who did not go to Australia and New Zealand, including the seven players who refused to be called up and have remained firm in their stance until now.
The communiqué will be collective, although there was dissent within the group, but in order to protect everyone it will not be a choral communication and will explain the reasons that led them to maintain this position. As Diario Sport has learned, the players believe that the changes that have taken place so far are insufficient, despite the departures of Rubiales and Vilda, as the federative structure is still dominated by the trusted men of the man from Motril.
The players want the person who leaked the video of Jenni Hermoso on the bus after winning the World Cup and receiving the non-consensual kiss from Rubiales out of the RFRF (they suspect members of the coaching staff), the people who devised and gave the order to make the statement with Jenni Hermoso's statements downplaying the importance of what happened (statements that the player never made) and those who wrote those statements.
