Jorge Vilda appointed as new Morocco women's coach

Jorge Vilda will be back in the dugout sooner than expected. According to the latest report from THT Marrocco, the former Spain women's coach has reached an agreement with the Moroccan federation to take over the reins of the country's women's project.

Vilda, who won the World Cup with Spain at the last World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, was sacked by the new RFEF board after the Luis Rubiales scandal on 5 October.

Although during the conflict Vilda released a statement dissociating himself from the attitude of the former president, his strong relationship with the previous leadership of the federation and friction with the group led Pedro Rocha to take the decision to dismiss him after informing him in a meeting.

With Vilda's appointment, Morocco's women's national team hopes to take the next step in its evolution after taking part in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. At that tournament, the Moroccan national team competed for the first time in its history and reached the round of 16, reaching the knockout stages of the tournament by pulling off a surprise in the group stage, where they eliminated Germany.

Vilda, who is under investigation for alleged coercion of Jennifer Hermoso, was mentioned by the player herself during her statement to the Public Prosecutor's Office, which triggered the filing of the complaint. This complaint was initially directed against Rubiales, but now also affects the former coach, Albert Luque and Rubén Rivera.

Hermoso stated that Vilda had tried to approach her brother three times on the plane back to Spain and that on the third occasion he succeeded. The coach, however, reportedly denied putting on any pressure or that he followed Rubiales' instructions to change the player's mind.
