RFEF sack general secretary Andreu Camps, Luis Rubiales' right-hand man

| sport

The decision comes as part of the wholesale changes being carried out by the Federation

Andreu Camps, Luis Rubiales' right-hand man, is no longer the secretary general of the RFEF. This has been announced by the Federation in a statement on Wednesday in which they explained Camps already knows the decision of the interim president of the Federation, Pedro Rocha, to dismiss him from his duties. Camps' dismissal was one of the players' requests. It is the first departure demanded at the moment.

It is a step closer to the requests of the players of the world-champion women's national team. The decision comes after last night's seven-hour night meeting which ended with 21 of the 23 players called up deciding to stay. Patri Guijarro and Mapi León have already left.

The meeting held until the early hours of Wednesday morning by the Spanish national team players, the RFEF and the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD), resulted in a commitment to "immediate changes" from the RFEF in its treatment of women's football and the creation of a tripartite commission to monitor the decisions taken. At the moment, it seems that these changes are already underway.

LRFEF dispenses with the services of the general secretary, Andreu Camps

The Federation will not appoint a new general secretary and the functions will be assumed on an interim basis by Elvira Andrés and Alfredo Olivares until the end of the electoral process.

From this moment on, and during the transition period until the end of the electoral process, his functions will be assumed by the director of the President's Office, Elvira Andrés, in the representative sphere as secretary of the governing and representative bodies of the Federation. Likewise, the executive functions will be assumed by Alfredo Olivares, the current Director of Competitions.

This decision has been taken in accordance with article 39.2 of the RFEF Statutes, which states:

"The appointment of the General Secretary shall be optional for the President of the RFEF who, if he/she does not make such appointment, shall be responsible for the functions of the former, being able to delegate them to the persons he/she deems appropriate."
