Madrid have dropped points in four of their 10 matches this season

They are eight points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona already

Real Madrid lost their second game of the La Liga season on Sunday, beaten 2-1 at Girona, and they are now eight points behind league leaders Barcelona. It's their worst start to a campaign in the last eight years, equalling the nightmare start they made under Jose Mourinho in 2012/13.

Just as was the case then, Madrid have won six games, drawn two and lost two. Coach Zinedine Zidane has accumulated the same amount of points (20) as Mourinho, whose side, curiously, were also eight points behind Barça after 10 games. Madrid, who were third at the time, ended that season in second, 15 points behind Tito Vilanova's Barcelona side.

Zidane's side have now matched that start. They are in a delicate situation. Next Sunday, they welcome Las Palmas to the Santiago Bernabeu and will be obliged to win the game going into the next international break. It's at home, though, where Madrid have picked up their worst results. In the league, they have won two, drawn two and lost one at the Bernabeu.
