The former Madrid player and coach spoke about Ronaldo's confidence
"Cristiano has the most profitable ego in the history of football," he said
Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo told France Football that he's the best player to ever play the game after winning his fifth Ballon d'Or last week.
“There is not a more complete player than me and I believe I am the best player in the history of football, in the good and the bad moments,” Ronaldo said.
Even former Madrid player Jorge Mendes was surprised by the Portugal international's comments.
"Cristiano has the most profitable ego in the history of football," the Argentine said on Onda Cero, suggesting he felt Ronaldo's claim was excessive.
"He has an extraordinary amount of confidence in himself and that's allowed him to improve a lot.
"There are people who are confused by their ego and it turns into an excess of confidence. He puts it to work every week."
Valdano also spoke about Lionel Messi: "Messi and Cristiano have opposite profiles but I don't think either of them accepts advice. They're capable of doing things few have done in the history of football."
