The Real Madrid defender beat Paul Scholes in the bookings stakes

Sergio Ramos was booked in the 23rd minute of Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Roma in the Champions League. It meant he has overtaken Paul Scholes in an unwanted record.

The Madrid player is the most booked player in the history of the Champions League. He used to share that with Scholes, on 36 yellow, but now he has seen the 37th, for a foul on Steven N’Zonzi. Bjorn Kuipers had no doubts in producing the yellow card.

That is not the first record of its type. In December 2017 he became the most sent off player in the history of La Liga, after seeing his 19th red card against Athletic Bilbao, overtaking Pablo Alfaro and Aguado’s 18.
