Real Madrid's message to Liverpool: "Asensio isn't for sale"

Marco Asensio isn't for sale. That's the clear message from Real Madrid to Liverpool. The player isn't keen on a move to Anfield either and has a contract which runs until 2023.

Asensio is seen as the figurehead of Florentino Perez's initiative to sign up all the best young players in football as he looks to build a squad for the present as well as the future.

Asensio is only thinking about succeeding at Real Madrid. He's 22 and knows that his career is going along the right path. To become a starter at Real Madrid is difficult but he's already enjoying plenty of playing time and could force his way into the first XI soon.

Florentino Pérez and Julen Lopetegui have both given the player their full support and agree he has a bright future with Los Blancos. The president believes the player's agent is behind this rumour of a move to Liverpool and fed the story to 'El Confidencial'. Real Madrid deny a €180m offer was made for Asensio's services but if one did arrive, they'd promptly reject it.

Asensio, who has a staggering €700m buyout clause, left his future up in the air when quizzed about the interest from Liverpool in Russia. He didn't dismiss the possibility of a move because he was focused on the World Cup and didn't want to know about anything going on elsewhere. But the player doesn't want to leave Real Madrid, a place where he's happy, feels valued and now has the full support of the club as well as the new coach.
