The French champions have also signed Brazili's physio in order to please Neymar as Real Madrid plan a mega offer

The world of football knows that Real Madrid, after selling Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus, are searching for a new marquee player, a new star to lead their project going forward. Florentino Perez needs to fill the void left by the player who, during nine years, has been the standard bearer at the club.

One team which knows this all too well is Paris Saint-Germain. The French team is aware that one of Real Madrid's main targets when it comes to replacing Cristiano is their Brazilian star Neymar. The striker arrived from Barcelona a year ago for €222m - the highest transfer in history - and signed a deal which runs until 2022. However, following a difficult year in Paris which resulted in a long-term injury and missing out on the key part of the season - plus a poor showing with Brazil at the World Cup - Neymar isn't against a move back to Spain.

Real Madrid are a club which gives him the chance to win everything and where, following Cristiano's exit, he has the chance to lead the team. This was one of the reasons he left Barcelona: to join a club with an ambitious project, economically as well as in the sporting sense, and where the team would play for him.

This interest from Madrid has forced PSG to make an immediate response. The French club have started talks with Neymar's representatives in order to improve his existing contract. This is being done in order to nullify the threat from Real Madrid. Neymar's current deal sees him take home €37m per season and a pay rise would see him edge closer to the €50m per season that Lionel Messi earns at Barcelona.

Furthermore PSG have tried to improve Neymar's situation in Paris by signing Bruno Mazziotti, the physio for the Brazilian national team as well as Corinthians. The physio was always by Neymar's side during his recuperation process last season in order for the player to arrive at the World Cup in top condition.

After being met with resistance by PSG, who want to retain their buyout-clause-free star at all costs, Real Madrid's plan is to convince Neymar to ask for a move away. For this reason the French champions have offered him an improved contract. If 'Plan A' fails, Perez will also attempt to sign Kylian Mbappe. Eden Hazard, of Chelsea, is also on the list of alternatives.
