The legendary goalkeeper defended Ulreich after his clanger against Madrid

Oliver Kahn, the legendary former goalkeeper for Germany and Bayern Munich, gave his opinion on Sven Ulreich's nightmare error against Real Madrid which led to Karim Benzema scoring the goal that eventually sent Zinedine Zidane's side to the final at Bayern's expense.

Kahn sympathised with Ulreich and said he had made a similar error when he was a player.

"It's obvious that he was thinking about two things at the same time: he wanted to grab the ball with his hands and at the same time he wanted to kick it far away," Kahn said.

"These things happen. It also happened to me against Real Madrid with a free-kick from Roberto Carlos. You don't to wake up the next day."

Joshua Kimmich had given Bayern the lead on the night but two strikes from Benzema made it 2-1 to Madrid. James Rodriguez struck later on for the Germans but they could not get the final goal they needed and they failed to reach the Champions League for the fifth year runnning.
