Julen Lopetegui's sacking by Real Madrid could be imminent
The board may even act tonight to get rid of the flailing Basque coach
The situation of Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui has taken an unexpected twist in the last few hours and he may even be sacked today, on Sunday.
Florentino Perez, Madrid’s president, has lost the confidence of the Basque coach and seems ready to take a decision after not being able to swallow Saturday’s defeat by Levante at home.
In the last few hours there has been a lot of contact between Madrid’s directors and it seems they are reaching the idea that an urgent change is needed and they cannot even wait until Tuesday when Madrid face Viktoria Plsen in the Champions League and the Clasico at Camp Nou on Sunday.
One of the questions raised is who is going to take over. B team coach Santiago Solari is now considered well placed to do so, similar to how Zinedine Zidane took over, but Guti has not been ruled out.
