The Real Madrid midfielder explained why he was happy to change his name

Luis Henrique Casemiro (or 'Casimiro') is one of the pillars of Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid side. With no back-up in the squad, it's noticeable when he is not playing. Really noticeable. The midfielder is currently in Sao Paulo with the Brazil national team. They beat Bolivia 5-0 a few days ago and face Peru on Wednesday.

He has spoken to Vamos about a number of issues, including his name, of which there has always been a certain amount of uncertainty about.

"Not many people know that in reality, my name is Casimiro, because my mother's surname is with an I, not an E: Casimiro. When I played in Brazil, there was a game in Sao Paulo when people started to call me Casemiro. I played really well that day and I decided that people should keep calling me Casemiro, with the E. And here we are today," he explained.

With respect to Real Madrid's start to the season, three wins and a draw, he said: "We're top... the sensations are really good. I hope people keep talking and we stay top. Preseason was short but as you say in Spain, 'it is what it is.' We're still getting into out rhythm, we have a bit to go, but the dynamic is good."

On Gareth Bale's return to Tottenham, Casemiro said: "He got on well with everyone. When he plays, if he's focused, he's one of the best in the world, top five without a doubt. For me, it's a pleasure to have shared a dressing room with someone like him. I hope everything goes great back at Tottenham. I am grateful for the goals he scored in finals and when I think of Gareth it's to remember those good moments."
