There are fears in the club that a move for Mbappe won't be as easy as they had hoped

Erling Haaland's name is gaining weight at Real Madrid. Los Blancos are beginning to expect that a deal for Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe will not be as straight forward as they had hoped. Borussia Dortmund's Haaland is seen as the ideal substitute for Karim Benzema, who at 33 is entering the final years of his career.

Haaland has scored 11 goals in nine games this season for Dortmund and the Norway national team. He has continued his form from last season when his goal scoring feats with Red Bull Salzburg first caught the eye of Europe's biggest clubs. Madrid are now the closest club to him. In fact, a move next summer has not been ruled out. His agent, Mino Raiola, committed to finishing this season with Dortmund first, though.

Madrid dream of uniting Haaland with Mbappe. Florentino Perez is still desperate to sign the French international but, despite the fact he's not renewed his deal in Paris, it's proving a tough job. Therefore, Madrid want an alternative option in place.

Haaland's release clause is 75 million euros but Madrid have a good relationship with Dortmund, so would hope to agree a fee with them. In fact, the relationship is so good that Madrid are in pole position if the Germans decide to sell Haaland.
