The Uruguayan has a 50m euro release clause which the club want to raise to 100m

Celta Vigo will fight hard to keep Uruguayan striker Maxi Gomez. The Galician clubs want to hand him a new contract to stop him leaving, with various offers on the table for the forward.

Barcelona have been linked with the forward, but put the deal on ice as he doesn’t have an EU Passport and would need to be one of the three players in the squad who doesn’t have one.

Gomez has a 50m euro release clause and various Premier League sides are willing to pay it. Celta could make a financial effort to amplify his deal and raise the clause to 100m. The idea is to play him up front with Toro Fernandez, who they signed from Penarol.

The Celta forward had an offer from Chinese football in January, but the player wanted to stay in Europe, convinced he can succeed there.
