Valencia: Prandelli was looking for an excuse to leave the club

The Italian coach left Valencia earlier this week after growing frustrated with transfer decisions

Valencia director Anil Murthy has criticised Cesare Prandelli for resigning from his job as manager and accused him of looking for excuses.

In an explosive press conference, Murthy did not hold back: "I met Prandelli to talk about signings 24 hours ago, so I was surprised to see him abandon the ship.

“What kind of person expects a club to guarantee the signings of five players over 26 within a week of the market opening?

“Prandelli gave up, he was looking for excuses to leave. There are no excuses for having taken only six points.

Sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch was equally as damning.

He said: “Prandelli’s decision is an act of irresponsibility. We need the support of valencianistas now."

Pitarch also offered his resignation, but it was rejected by the club.
