Cesare Prandelli expected to be named as the new Valencia manager

The Italian is set to take over from the sacked Pako Ayestaran at Mestalla in the coming days

Cesare Prandelli is the man chosen by Valencia sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch to take over at Mestalla.

The Italian coach, who’s managed Roma, Fiorentina, Galatasaray and the Italy national team, could take over next week, with everything suggesting he’ll be presented before the game against Atletico on Sunday, with Voro remaining in charge for that match.

All that is lacking is for Peter Lim to give the definitive yes to the Garcia Pitarch’s recommended appointment. Andre Villas-Boas and Fabio Capello were also in the running.

According to Superdeporte, a meeting between Garcia Pitarch and Prandelli took place last Thursday over dinner and talks are now extremely advanced.

The 59-year-old coach has been out of work since November when he lost his job in Turkey. Unlike the club’s previous two managers - Neville and Ayestaran - he has plenty of experience.
