The government have passed the recommendation onto the Autonomous Communities

The Spanish government has reached out to each Autonomous Community in the country about the possibility of playing La Liga games behind closed doors due to the spread of coronavirus, according to El Confidencial.

The Minister for Health, Salvador Illa, has revealed a number of measures being weighed up by the government given the outbreak, although he avoided confirming anything until it's official: "I don't want to speculate on matters that have not been approved."

According to El Confidencial, however, Illa has personally been in touch with the leaders of each of the Autonomous Communities about how the country plans to deal with the open crisis caused by coronavirus. One of the suggestions is for football to go behind closed doors.

Some Communities have already started to take drastic measures. Madrid, for example, has ordered the suspension of education centres at all levels for two weeks. The same is true in Vitoria in the Basque Country.

With respect to sporting events, the Health Department have already decreed that Sevilla's Europa League game against Roma on Thursday be played behind closed doors.

The same could be true for Barcelona's game against Napoli next Wednesday (March 18). A decision is expected on Tuesday following a meeting between the Catalan club and local government
