Luka Modric: Cristiano and Salah will have other chances
The Croatian spoke after being crowned the best player in the world by FIFA
As expected, Luka Modric was crowned the best player in the world by FIFA. The Croatian was very happy and also said his two opponents, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah, could win it next year.
"It's fantastic to be here with this fantastic trophy," said Modric. "I wanted to congratulate Salah and Cristiano for their great season. In the future they will have another chance to fight for this trophy."
Modric also praised his Real Madrid and Croatia team-mates, with whom he won the Champions League and finished runner-up in the World Cup respectively.
"This prize is for all my Real Madrid team-mates and the Croatia national team, and for all the coaches I have had. It is for my family too. Without them I would not be The Best."
He also wanted to thank the voters and made reference to the Croatia national team that finished third in France 1998. "I want to mention the team that came thrid in France and I hope that we too will be an example for future generations, as they were for me. I wnat them to know that dreams come true.
"I want to thank my club, Real Madrid, and my fans, who have always shown me great love, this prize is for them too."
