Al-Sadd dream of making the Club World Cup later this year

Former Barcelona captain Xavi Hernández has led Qatari side Al-Sadd to the semi-final of the Asian Champions League.

Xavi's experience has helped Al-Sadd take the step into the last four, something which would have been unimaginable before the midfielder's arrival.

It was not easy, but Xavi, who now has the help of another former La Liga star, Gabi, overcame Esteghal, based in Tehran, Iran.

The two sides drew 2-2 on Tuesday, which was enought to take the Qatar side into the semi-final after they won the first leg away from home 3-1, progressing 5-3 on aggregate.

Xavi and Gabi both starthed the game, with Akram Afifa and a Baghdad Bounedjah penalty earning a draw for Al-Sadd.

"We're now in the semi-final of the Asian Champions League," Xavi wrote on Instagram. "Really proud of our teamwork."

If Al-Sadd manage to go all the way in the competition, they would qualify for the Club World Cup at the end of the year, where they could end up facing Real Madrid.
