The Brazil and Al Hilal forward will be sidelined for months

The worst fears for Neymar were confirmed after he suffered an injury in Brazil's match against Uruguay in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The forward has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee, as confirmed by his club Al Hilal.

Neymar will have to undergo surgery, which will result in a long-term absence, almost certainly causing him to miss the remainder of the season.

The Brazilian was carried off on a stretcher after a collision with De La Cruz in the final minutes of the first half. Canarinha's No.10 immediately grabbed the inside of his knee and the worst fears were confirmed when Diniz immediately called for Richarlison.

Al Hilal said: "The medical tests Neymar underwent, confirmed the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus tear injury in his knee, he will be going through surgery and then a treatment program that will be determined later."

Brazil said: "Brazilian national team and Al-Hilal attacker Neymar Jr. underwent clinical and imaging tests on Wednesday that confirmed the rupture of his left knee's anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus.

"Neymar suffered a knee sprain during the Brazilian national team's match against Uruguay in Montevideo, as part of the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"He will undergo a surgical procedure at a date yet to be determined to address these injuries. The medical department of the Brazilian national team, under the supervision of Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar, and Al Hilal are in constant contact and aligned in the athlete's recovery."
