Valverde is a candidate for 'The Best' Coach 2018
The Barcelona boss was named as one of the eleven candidates for the Best Male Coach award for 2018 alongside Simeone and Zidane
Barcelona's first team coach Ernesto Valverde has been named as one of candidates in FIFA's 'The Best' Coach category. Last season Barça won a LaLiga and the Copa del Rey double. He's joined on the shortlist alongside Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone and former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane.
Alongside those three on the list are World Cup winning coach Didier Deshamps, Croatia's Zlatko Dalic, Russia's Stanislav Cherchesov, England's Gareth Southgate and Belgium's Roberto Martínez. They all make it after impressive campaigns for their respective nations at the World Cup. Pep Guardiola (Manchester City), Massimiliano Allegri (Juventus) and Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool) round off the choices.
From those eleven names, selected by a panel of experts, three finalists will be picked. Fans, journalists, national team coaches and national team captains will vote for who they believe was the best coach last year. The top three will appear at a show in London on the 24th September where the winner will receive his award.
