Ronaldo's Messi confession in interview with Piers Morgan before United move

The Manchester United forward spoke with the TV personality while still living in Turin

Piers Morgan has revealed a conversation he had with new Manchester United signing Cristiano Ronaldo in which he praised Lionel Messi but once again placed himself ahead of the Argentina star.

Ronald broke another record during the international break, becoming the top scorer in men's international football with his 110th and 111th goals for Portugal in the 2-1 win against Ireland.

Morgan, who has had a relationship with the player since 2019, has written in his column for the Daily Mail about a dinner he had with Ronald in Turin, before he signed for United.

In said dinner, Morgan asked Ronaldo about the best player he has played against, with the former Real Madrid man citing Messi, but the praise ended there.

‘Who's the greatest footballer you've ever played against?' Morgan wrote that he asked Cristiano Ronaldo.

“It was 1am on the candlelit terrace of his favourite restaurant in Turin, Italy, where he was still playing for Juventus before his recent sensational decision to rejoin Manchester United.

“It was time for the big question. ‘Messi,’ he replied, immediately and emphatically.

“‘Really?’ I said, surprised that he would name his biggest rival.

“‘For sure. He is the best I've played against.’

“Then he grinned.

“‘But Piers, you are asking me the wrong question.’

“‘OK. What's the right question?’

“‘You should just ask me who is the greatest player…’

“‘I think I know the answer,’ I replied, laughing.

“Ronaldo winked and we clinked glasses. He believes he's the best to ever play the game.

“And I agree with him.”
