Official: Zlatan Ibrahimovic joins MLS side LA Galaxy

The American club have confirmed the arrival of the 36-year-old

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has signed for MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy, it was confirmed on Friday. 

After having his contract with Manchester United terminated by mutual consent on Thursday, the Swedish striker has penned a deal with the American side for two years. 

According to Sports Illustrated, he will earn around 1.5 million dollars a year, 96 percent less than what he was earning at Old Trafford. 

MLS rules have a strict salary caps which only allow clubs to have three "franchised players" and all of those spaces are currently taken by Giovani dos Santos, Romain Alessandrini and Jonathan dos Santos. 

“Coming to play in the United States, it is only fitting for me to join the most successful team in Major League Soccer, the LA Galaxy,” Ibrahimovic said.

“I am excited to join a club with a winning legacy that has embodied soccer in Los Angeles for over 20 years. I would like to thank everyone at the club for making it possible to play for the LA Galaxy.

"I am looking forward to joining my teammates, playing at StubHub Center in front of our fans and helping our team compete this season.”

Ibrahimovic, 36, joins the Galaxy after a successful career in Europe which started at hometown club Malmo and took in Ajax, Juventus, Inter, Barcelona, Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester Inited.
