Ronald Koeman has taken over as coach of the Netherlands and will attempt to lead them to Euro 2020 after they missed out on this summer's World Cup.

The Dutch national team are not going through a good spell. As well as not qualifying for Russia this year, they also missed the European Championships in France in 2016.

Koeman becomes their seventh coach in the last eight years. The former Barcelona player returns for a second spell with the national team, having been Guus Hiddin's No.2 back in the 1990s.

Since then, Koeman has coached Vitesse, Ajax, Benfica, PSV, Valencia, AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord, Southampton and Everton. He was sakced by the last of those side's earlier this season.

"I'm really positive about the future of the team. We have enough talent but we have to change some things, which I will talk about at a later stage," Koeman said at his presentation.

"I think the Netherlands should and must be qualifying for major finals and I see a bright future in that regard. That's why I've taken the job."
