The former player has previously coached the Albiceleste

Diego Armando Maradona has put himself forward to coach Argentina again, saying he would do the job for free.

Eight years ago, Maradona was in charge of the Argentine side at the South African World Cup having helped them win the World Cup as a player in Mexico in 1986.

But his experience as a coach wasn't as successful, with the Albiceleste eliminated 4-0 against Germany in the quarter-final.

After that tournament, Maradona coached in the UAE (with Al Wasl F. C. and Al Fujairah S. C.) but has never returned to management since.

Asked by Telesur is he'd like to replace Jorge Sampaoli, he said: "Yes, and I would do it for free. I wouldn't ask for anything in exchange."

Sampaoli, whose Argentina side lost 4-3 to France in the last 16 of the World Cup last weekend, has a contract with the Federation until 2022.

"Creen que estoy contento pero me duele el corazón. Ojalá Dios me diera la fuerza como para volver a la cancha, los años y la vida pasan para todo el mundo y a mí me agarran los 57 años viendo a mi selección vapuleada por un equipo que no creo que sea uno de los mejores del campeonato"Diego Armando Maradona
