Jordi Alba and Sergio Ramos both a step away from Inter Miami

| sport

SPORT have learned Jordi Alba is in advanced negotiations to sign for Inter Miami, which, if the deal is finalised, would mean that he would be reunited in the same team with Leo Messi and Sergio Busquets, two of his friends and former teammates at FC Barcelona.

The fact is that the Florida club are also negotiating the incorporation of Sergio Ramos, a player who has not renewed his contract with PSG and who has been linked with Sevilla in the last few hours.

The reunion would be special because Messi and Ramos have coincided in the last two seasons at PSG and Busquets and Alba coincided with Messi at Barcelona, and these two also coincided with Ramos in the Spanish national team. It would be a very La Liga-looking Inter Miami as they have all played most of their careers in Spanish competition.

It so happens that the new coach also has a history, albeit a short one, in the Spanish league. He is Tata Martino, Barcelona's coach for one season and a coach who knows Messi well (he also had him in the Argentina national team), Alba and Busquets.

Jordi Alba terminated his contract with Barcelona several weeks ago, giving up a lot of money, and his name was linked with Atletico Madrid, Inter, Benfica and even Sevilla. In none of these cases has there been any information that negotiations were progressing. In the same way, he was linked with Saudi Arabia but nothing materialised. Jordi Alba is in favour of moving to the MLS, alongside his friends Busquets and Messi, and with the idea of spending the last years of his career there.

The case of Ramos is different. He wanted to renew his contract with PSG but did not reach an agreement because the Parisian club wanted to start a new phase and get rid of many players with a high salary and higher ages. So, Ramos was not renewed. He contemplated options in Arabia or even the League but, like Alba, he is heading for the MLS.

Inter Miami will have made four luxury signings as bringing in three world champions in one fell swoop is not easy. Nor is it easy to bring in four players who have won 12 Champions League titles (Messi and Ramos, 4, Busquets, 3 and Alba, 1). Their challenge will be daunting as Inter Miami are bottom of MLS having won just 1 game out of 19. With these players, Inter Miami will have to change the dynamic because none of them are used to such negative situations.
