Euro 2024: Scotland have not forgotten Spain midfielder Rodri's words

The Man City man made the comments after Scotland beat Spain earlier this year

Scotland will go into Thursday's crucial clash against Spain at La Cartuja with top spot in the group at stake. The Tartan Army will be hoping to pull off an upset and consolidate their lead at the top of the table by keeping their 100% record in tact.

To that end, the Scots, players and fans alike, are still mindful of Rodrigo Hernandez's words at the conclusion of the game in Glasgow last March when Scotland beat Spain.

The Manchester City midfielder did not like the way the Scots approached the game, which ended in a conclusive two-nil defeat for La Roja in what was Luis de la Fuente's first defeat as coach.

On the back of the shirts of many of the Scotland fans travelling to Seville on Wednesday are the comments made by Rodri after that match when he said their style of play was "rubbish" and they "waste time."

Those statements caused a major stir both in Scotland -- Rodri plays nearby -- and in England, and this week they have been conveniently recalled in the press and by members of the Scottish national team.

"It's their way of playing and we have to respect it, but for me it's a bit rubbish. They're always wasting time, they provoke you, they fall down.... For me, this is not football," Rodri said in quotes now printed on to Scotland fans' T-shirts alongside the hashtag #Rodriisafanny.

"For the speed of the game, you have to keep going. The referee has to take this on board, but he doesn't say anything."

Nobody has forgotten those words north of Hadrian's Wall. The Scots, although aware of their technical inferiority, will be out to bite at La Cartuja.
