The Dutch winger turned sporting director left Ajax after some disgraceful behaviour

Former Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars had been sending pictures of his penis to a colleague at the club, per Dutch newspaper Het Parool. The club had said on Sunday that he was leaving his post with immediate effect.

The former Dutch winger, who was at Arsenal and Barcelona in his playing career, is said to have sent unwanted messages to women at the club on social networks, including of his genitals.

“I am ashamed,” he said. “Unfortunately I did not see that I had crossed the line, but I’ve understood it now and I felt an enormous pressure. I offer my apologies.”

The KNVB (Dutch FA) also commented.

"We are shocked by the reports at Ajax and sympathise with all the victims," they “said in a statement.

“As the largest sports association in the Netherlands, we are aware that, unfortunately, power relations can also play a role in the workplace in the sports world," it said in a statement.

"We would like to say to all victims of transgressive behaviour: please report, no matter how difficult it is.”
