Dani Alves will not play at the Russia World Cup with Brazil and may never feature on that stage again after suffering a knee injury in the French Cup final while playing for PSG.
Alves, 35, damaged his ACL ahead of competing at what would have been his third Wolrd Cup.
“Last Thursday (May 10th), Brazilian team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar and coordinator Edu Gaspar arrived in Paris for an in-depth follow-up on the medical situation from the final of the French Cup regarding the right-back of Paris Saint Germain, Daniel Alves," read a statement from the Brazilian FA.
“The patient underwent close examination and we have confirmed the initial diagnosis of anterior cruciate ligament injury, requiring surgical treatment.
“With no chance of recovery in the upcoming period, Daniel Alves will not be with Brazil for the period of preparation, friendlies and, consequently, for the World Cup.
“The technical team of the Brazilian National Team wishes Daniel Alves a prompt recovery so that his technique, ability and leadership are back for us as soon as possible.”
