The German champions confirmed the Eintracht Frankfurt coach will take over

Eintracht Frankfurt coach Niko Kovac will replace Jupp Heynckes on the bench at Bayern Munich this summer, the German club confirmed on Friday.

Bild and Sport Bild were first to report that Bayern president Uli Hoeness and chief executive officer Karlheinz Rummenigge have reached an agreement with the Croatian coach.

The 46-year-old will take over from Heynckes at the end of the season after the 72-year-old replaced Carlo Ancelotti earlier this season.

According to Kicker, Kovac will sign a two-year deal with the Bundesliga champions.

Bayern turned to the former Croatia boss after they failed to reach an agreement with ex-Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel, who's set to move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Kovac's contract with Eintracht runs until 2019 but there's a clause which will allow him to move to Bayern for 2.2 million euros.

Born in Berlin to Croatian parents, Kovac played for Hertha, Bayer Leverkusen, Hamburg and Bayern (2001-2003) during his career .

He was then Croatia coach before taking over at Eintracht in March 2016 when they were fighting to avoid relegation.

In 2017, he even took them to the German cup final and this season they are still fighting for a Champions League spot and are in the semifinals of the cup again.
