According to reports in England, Barcelona are interested in the defencer

Another centre-back has appeared on Barcelona's shortlist. According to the Daily Mirror, Barça are weighing up a January move for Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld.

Injuries to Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen have left Barça with just Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet in the middle of defence, obliging them to seek solutions.

Ajax's De Ligt is thier preference but his high price and the Dutch club's reluctance to sell in the winter mean they will have to look elsewhere if Ernesto Valverde asks for backup.

That's where Alderweireld comes in. The Belgian has had his ups and downs with coach Pochettino but has been a regular this season due to an injury to Verthongen.

Despite that, Tottenham are open to selling. He is out of contract at the end of the season, although the English club have the option to extend his terms by an additional year.

If they take up that option, a clause is inserted into his terms which would allow him to leave the club if a fee of 28 million euros is paid.

Manchester United is another club following the defender. Jose Mourinho is desperate for a new centre-back and has been so since the summer.
