The left-back Abidal wanted to sign before quitting Barcelona
Faitout Maouassa was lined up to replace Junior Firpo at Camp Nou
Éric Abidal had a plan. Before everything blew up and he resigned in the wake of the 8-2 thrashing to Bayern, the former Barcelona sporting director had a series of transfer targets.
One of the positions he wanted to strengthen was left-back. He was confident that Junior Firpo would be moved on and had sounded out two young players from Ligue 1 in France.
According to 'L'Equipe', Abidal's first choice was Faitout Maouassa, the Rennes players who was previously on loan at Nimes. Last season, he played 32 games, scoring three goals and setting two up. He's rated at around €12 million.
Abidal's second target, in case Maouassa didn't sign, was Rayan Aït-Nouri, a 19-year-old who plays for Angers.
