The midfielder has joined the club from Juve and began training on Saturday

Miralem Pjanic has been assigned his new squad number at FC Barcelona. SPORT has learned that the Bosnian midfielder will be given the No 8 shirt, which last season was worn by Arthur Melo.

Pjanic arrived in Barcelona on Thursday after recovering from coronavirus in Italy. He had further PCR tests upon arrival and has since started individual training. On Saturday, he watched his new teammates beat Gimnastic de Tarragona at the Johan Cruyff stadium.

The former Juventus man could start full training on Monday and may make his debut in Wednesday's game against Girona, where he would wear the No 8.

It will be the second time he's worn the number in his career. At Lyon, he wore the No 18 before changing to No 8. At Roma, he wore No 15 once again and during four seasons at Juve he had the No 5 shirt.
