Ter Stegen's personal objective at Barça this year: the Zamora trophy
The last Barça keeper to claim the award was Claudio Bravo; Jan Oblak has won the last four
Marc-André Ter Stegen is ready take on a personal challenge, aside from the collective desire to win every trophy available, and that to win the Trofeo Zamora (Zamora Trophy) next season. In his five years at Barça, he's yet to claim the award.
Across those five years at the Camp Nou he's won the league four times, twice as the club's number one, but he's never finished the season as the goalkeeper with the least goals conceded.
No one can question the level ter Stegen has maintained whilst at Barça. He's been crucial in winning a Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup, a Club World Cup, four LaLigas, four Copa del Reys and two Spanish Super Cups. However he's seen the Zamora Trophy go to Claudio Bravo, his then-teammate at Barça, and then Jan Oblak.
Bravo was picked ahead of ter Stegen by Luis Enrique and since then, the last four have been won Atletico Madrid's Oblak.
Ter Stegen knows it won't be easy to wrestle that award away from Oblak as the Slovenian international wants to be the first goalkeeper to claim the prize in five consecutive seasons. Plus, as everyone knows, Atletico base their style of play on being defensively sound. But if anyone can break the monopoly on the Zamora Trophy, it's Barça's number one.
