The Dutch coach admits he will have to leave his homeland sooner or later

After Matthijs de Ligt questioned the level of the Eredivisie, Holland coach Ronaldo Koeman has shown solidarity with the Ajax defender, who's wanted by Europe's biggest clubs.

"You can imagine the level of the Dutch league once you have played your first Champions League game and then you're playing Excelsior, away from home and on an artificial pitch," Koeman said. "The intensity of the Dutch league's lower, like the competition."

Koeman also justified De Ligt's desire to leave Ajax at the end of the season: "It's normal that a player of his quality, sooner of later, decides that the moment has come to take a step forward in their professional career and seek new challenges with bigger clubs and competitions."

However, the former Everton boss also lamented that "the players with the biggest futures are leaving the Dutch league younger all the time, it's something to be reflected on."

Barcelona are among the clubs chasing De Ligt and are waiting for ajax to fix a price so they can finalise a deal for next summer. He's the club's biggest target at the moment.
