He also defended the signing of Coutinho who should play in midfield

Antoine Griezmann’s situation could become one of the soap operas of the summer if he doesn’t announce his destination. Former Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez explained that he previously attempted to sign the Frenchman for the Catalan giants.

“I tried to sign Griezmann two years ago, but it could not be done. Now I’m not at Barca and I don’t know what will happen,” he told Esports Cope.

After the documentary Griezmann made last summer some Barca and players do not want him.

On Coutinho, a transfer which went wrong, Fernandez said: “Nobody can doubt his quality but he doesn’t have the attributes to play up top. I didn’t sign him as a forward, we thought he’d be Iniesta’s replacement.

“I have no doubt about his signing, he can play in midfield. He keeps the ball, has quality, control of the game and turns well against pressure, he’s an extraordinary player. It’s hard for him and for the coach.”
