The former director of football at Barcelona gave his thoughts on the Brazilian's situation following the victory over Liverpool

Philippe Coutinho's situation at FC Barcelona continues to be a subject of debate amongst supporters. He once again failed to stamp his authority on the game and contributed very ltitle to his side's 3-0 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final. As his number came up on the board to be replaced, Coutinho was greeted with whistles and boos from the restless Camp Nou natives.

However he was backed by Lionel Messi in the Argentine's post match interview. He told supporters that whistling the most expensive signing in Barça's history wasn't making anything better and that they should be supporting him instead.

Former director of football at Barça, Robert Fernández, spoke about Coutinho after the game as well. "It's important to find the right position for him. It's clear he's suffered a lot in recent matches, you can see it in his face and in his body language. It isn't easy playing for Barcelona, although Coutinho is a great footballer."

Robert believes the best position for the Brazilian is in centre midfield. "I believe he'd do better in midfield. His arrival was a personal decision of mine because I felt he could replace Iniesta. Well, as much as anyone can because Iniesta is irreplaceable."

"What Philippe needs right now is help. The gesture from Messi was priceless," concluded Robert.
