The former member of Barça's sporting department has praised the central defender as the best around after his performance in El Clasico

During the 1988/89 season Robert Fernández played in 37 of the 38 LaLiga matches. Even more impressive is he played 90 minutes for 34 matches in a row and only missed one match, the 35th, against Sevilla at the Sánchez-Pizjuán.

Very few players come close to matching that achievement but Pique, with 26 consecutive LaLiga matches under his belt, might have an outside chance. Not even the undroppable Leo Messi has done it. In the 2014/15 season he played in 37 of the 38 LaLiga fixtures but in one of those he only on the field for 45 minutes.

Fernández said this in an interview with AS: "Piqué is the best centre back in the world. Now just now, but of all time"

During his period in charge of the transfer business at the club, he brought in Ousmane Dembele and is proud to see the Frenchman now a key member of the team. Arthur is another one he played a key role in being into the club.
