They are the only other footballers to have won seven top-scorer awards in Europe's main leagues

On Sunday Leo Messi bagged a brace against Alaves to secure his place as LaLiga's top scorer for the seventh time. This saw him move ahead of the legendary Telmo Zarra who dominated Spanish football in the 40s and 50s.

It was Messi's fourth consecutive Pichichi, equalling what Hugo Sanchez did between 1984 and 1989.

With his seventh top scorer award, Messi joined the podium of the best goalscorers across Europe's main leagues. He joins Gerd 'Torpedo' Muller and 'The Black Panther' Eusebio in an elite club to have claimed seven awards.

The German achieved this in the Bundesliga during the 66-67, 68-69, 69-70, 71-72, 72-73, 73-74 and 77-78 seasons for Bayern.

As for the Portuguese icon, he managed the feat in the Primeira Liga for Benfica during the 63-64, 64-65, 65-66, 66-67, 67-68, 69-70 and 72-73 seasons.

With a lot of football still left to play, Messi could overtake both if he picks up another Pichichi. Leo already has more Golden Shoes and Ballon d'Ors than anyone else (both 6).

This isn't the first time Messi has brushed shoulders with Muller. The Argentine broke the German's record of most goals scored in a full year. He's also broke Muller's record for most goals scored in a single season for the same club.

Messi recently scored goal number 700 of his career, although he's still some way off the 805 that Josef Bican achieved in the 30s and 50s.

This season Leo has scored 25 goals and added 21 assists, which is the highest ever number of assists for any Barça player in the domestic league.
