The striker's agents plan to meet with the Italian club in the coming days

Inter Milan are hopeful of getting star striker Lautaro Martinez to sign a new contract with the club. The player's agents are due to meet with the Italian club in the coming days to negotiate the details of the new deal, which would come with an increased salary, according to Calciomercato.

One of the options being discussed is the removal of the release clause in Lautaro's deal, which is 111 million euros (with a deadline at the end of each season).

Barcelona tried to sign the Argentine international in the summer but Inter stood strong on their price demands. That, coupled with the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic, meant the Catalans had to pull out of the operation.

Lautaro was their preferred No.9 option to replace Luis Suarez, who joined Atletico Madrid, but in the end they weren't able to sign another central striker -- Memphis Depay emerged as a cheaper alternative.

Since the new season began, Lautaro, in his third year with Inter, has scored three goals. Last season he found the net 21 times.
