Wenger on Barça's Griezmann: Not playing his position is complicated

Griezmann was an unused substitute in the Champions League and hasn't scored this season

For the first time since 2014-15, Antoine Griezmann hasn't scored in the first four games of the La Liga season. He was taken off in each of the four matches played by Barcelona so far in the league and was an unused substitute in the Champions League win against Ferencvaros on Tuesday.

The French forward is lacking confidence and his integration into Barça's style of player seems more complicated than ever.

That's led to a debate about where Griezmann should play and if his role for the France national team is much different to the one given to him at Camp Nou.

Speaking on BeIN Sports, former Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger shared his view on the issue and believes the problem is where he's asked to play at Barcelona.

"Not playing in his position is complicated in the long-term," he said. "At first, the kid accepts it but if he doesn't fulfil expectations in the long-term and he feels the position he's playing doesn't allow him to express his best qualities, he loses heart."

Wenger added: "He's a player that should be in the middle because he's active, he's a good passer, he can be dangerous with his final pass, and for the fact he scores goals. But there's congestion in that area because it's the zone where Messi moves."
