Elber joins the bandwagon: "Lewandowski is better than Leo Messi"
Two of Europe's in-form players come head to head in the Champions League this week
After Matthäus and Rummenigge, Giovane Elber has now disrespected Lionel Messi by suggesting that Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski is better than him.
The former Bayern player has further stoked the fire ahead of Barça's meeting with the German champions in the quarterfinal of the Champions League on Friday.
Elber, who played for Bayern between 1997 and 2003, has told BILD that he would take Lewandowski over Messi.
"Right now, Lewandowski is better than Messi," the Brazilian said. "I love what Messi does and how he plays, he's been a top player for years, a genius, but Lewandowski's given a recital this year.
"He can do anything and converts all the balls that reach him into goals. And he will keep on doing. He's having a spectacular season."
Elber's comments will do nothing but further motivate Barça's players. Remember that Messi took them apart when they met in the semifinals in 2015. It seems that's been forgotten in Munich.
