Barcelona target Frenkie De Jong: I will never be like Cruyff
The midfielder has been compared with the Dutch great in recent weeks
Frenkie de Jong remains the centre of attention as Europe's biggest clubs jostle to sign the Ajax midfielder.
At 21, he's already the motor of the Dutch side and is drawing all kinds of praise. The latest line is that he's the successor to Johan Cruyff.
In Holland, many analysts have compared his progression on the pitch to the former Barcelona player and coach.
Despite that, De Jong is keeping his feet on the floor based on an interview he gave to 'De Telegraaf' after Ajax's win over NAC Breda.
"I try not to take notice of comparisons and focus on what I have to do," he said. "Of course it's good that you're compared with [Cruyff], but I am a long way from his level and I will never be him."
De Jong is wanted, among others, by Barcelona, who also want his Ajax teammate, defender Matthijs de Ligt.
The midfielder has never hidden his admiration for players like Xavi and Iniesta and has also said he's like his career to be linked with De Ligt's next step if possible.
