Official: Senegal star Sadio Mane ruled out of the World Cup

Devastating news for Senegal's Qatar 2022 World Cup ambitions: Sadio Mané misses out on the tournament. The Bayern Munich forward could not recover from his knee problems and says goodbye to the finals.
The Senegal star was injured in the match between Bayern and Werder Bremen this month and had to be replaced after 19. Following tests, it was discovered that the knock was a somewhat serious tendon injury. He was still included in the Senegal squad in hope but he will finally not be able to play in Qatar. What's more, Bayern have announced that he has undergone surgery in Innsbruck and "he will begin his rehabilitation in Munich in the next few days."
Initially, Bayern had issued a statement stating that the injury was not serious and that it should not jeopardize his participation in the World Cup. In the end, it was not to be.
