The Spain coach says he thinks the Barça captain can make it to 2026 aged 38

Sergio Busquets is one of the 26 players called up by Luis Enrique to be part of the Spain squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Barcelona and Spain captain remains key to La Roja just as he does to Xavi Hernandez's side at club level.

At 34, he will be taking part in his fourth World Cup after debuting at South Africa 2010, when Spain were crowned world champions.

Busquets was also in the squad for the more disappointing campaigns at Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018.

He will be the veteran of the team and the leader and, asked about him, Luis Enrique gave a staunch defence of the player.

"I do not agree it will be his last World Cup," the Spain boss said. "My objective is to convince him to play another one."

Lucho added: "He is like [tennis player] Rafa Nadal. If we manage to play how we want, in the opposition half and pressing well, Busquets is like Nadal, the best in the world, but if the team is stretched and the game opens up, no. But I don't see a better pivote in the world for how we play."
