The Croatia stopper was superb and Brazil were dumped out yet again

Brazil were favourites for the World Cup, and now they are licking their wounds, sent crashing out by Croatia on penalties.

The 2018 runners-up defended well through the game and goalkeeper Dominic Livakovic made several brilliant saves denying Neymar, Vinicius and Lucas Paqueta among others.

Brazil moved ahead in extra-time, with Neymar playing two one-twos and then rifling into the roof of the net, but Bruno Petkovic tucked home the equaliser near the end taking the game to penalties.

Croatia scored all four of theirs, Brazil saw Rodrygo denied by Livakovic and then Marquinhos hit the post.

Zlatko Dalic’s side progress to the semi-finals, where they will play Argentina.

“He’s showed many many times through his career he’s a magnificent GK, he gives us a lot of confidence, because against a team like Brazil they will always have chances, because you cannot close anything against these kind of players,” said Croatia defender Borna Sosa, about goalkeeper Livakovic.

“To win against Brazil you need to have this kind of luck a little bit, and a goalkeeper on the maximum level that we had today. We are very happy, but it was a very exhausting game.”
