Oscar Taberez' side were better throughout the 90 minutes and deserved but had to make do with the Paris Saint-Germain striker's second half strike.

Luis Suarez was the centre of attention in the first half with a perfomance which saw him hit the woodwork twice.

Uruguay remained on top in the second half and took the lead through Cavani, who was making his 100th appearance for his country.

Andy King and Gareth Bale had Wales' best chances but were unable to beat Fernando Muslera as Uruguay emerged as the winners of the China Cup.
