After three poor showings in Europe, Barcelona are desperate to win the Champions League this season but will need to get through a tough group

Tottenham, PSV Eindhoven and Inter Milan will be Barcelona's rivals in the Champions League group stage. In a six-match format you can't envisage Barça having any problems topping the group. This will be the first step in the club's main objective: win the Champions League again.

After falling at the quarter final stage in the last three seasons, and just one Champions League title in the last seven seasons, Barcelona have made European success a priority this year. Lionel Messi said as much in his first speech as captain. "This year we're going to do everything possible to bring that beautiful cup back to the Camp Nou."

To achieve that, Barcelona have brought in four new signings: the centre back, Clement Lenglet, midfielders Arthur and Arturo Vidal and the winger Malcom. Youth, quality and experience to avoid committing the same errors of previous editions. That painful defeat to Roma still hurts even now. Ernesto Valverde admitted that, for both he and the players, that night in Roma remains strong in their memory.

Tottenham, PSV and Inter represent the first hurdle in Barcelona's route to becoming champions of Europe again. The competition starts on the 18th September and the final, on the 1st June at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium, represents the finishing point that Barcelona hope to reach.
