The Spain goalkeeper saved two penalties in the shoot-out as La Roja won out

Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon was awarded UEFA’s man of the match award, but he did not agree with the decision. “They should have given it to (Yann) Sommer, because he had a great game during the 120 minutes.”

Unai Simon thought Spain deserved to reach the semi-finals even though it was on penalties.

“I think that football was fair and we are just winners of this game, in the end we have to forget out mistakes rapidly, just like when we get things right, because the semi-final opponent is coming.

“Tomorrow we have to re-set and start from zero. We have to have the mentality that every game is new. For the semis we have to go out like we did today, with one thought, to win.”

Simon celebrated the win wildly. “It was a bit over the top but in the end that’s what my body asked of me, I’m not usually like that. It was a moment of euphoria and I put all my anger out there.”
